On the 20th and 21st of September was held in Angers (Loire Valley, France) the first European edition of psychedelic music festival Levitation. Twining the Austin Psych Fest, the event has gathered 2000 festival goers around a chiseled selection of top bands from multiple nationalities coming to state on the psyche music. An initiative highly acclaimed, organized by the Texan festival, Le Chabada rock venue and Radical Production.
To grow our pleasure, some happenings have been orchestrated in various places in Angers :
- 10th of September: at Un Brin Folk rock bar, Jérôme Kalcha Simmoneau has unfolded the story of psychedelism through the listening of multiples tracks written and sung all over the world, from the origins (in the 60’s) till today.
- 17th of September: at the 400 Coups cinema, François Delaunay (Le Chabada), Xavier Massé (Premiers Plans movie festival) and Philippe Thieyre (Journaliste) have invited the public to a special commented screening of « When You’re Strange » (feat. The Doors) and mythic Easy Rider.
- 18th of September: at the Angers big theatre was inaugurated a large retrospective exhibition of the most beautiful posters and vinyls covers of the psychedelism history, in presence of the mayor of Angers and Rob Fitzpatrick, organizer of Austin Psych Fest who came for the occasion. Private collection of Philippe Thieyre, he was given room at Le Bolero Club to come back in details on these graphics and on the full story of psychedelism. Evening ended late after the listening of various psychedelic hits, mixed by special DJ Philippe Thieyre himself and guest DJ Jérôme Kalcha Simmoneau.
- 19th of September: here came some live music with, for the first time on stage, Origin of Black Eagles, a young local combo who transported the audience at the Brin Folk in a big revival mass. Ajnendriya band will complete the evening at the Donald’s pub with a mature and roots rock music shaking people until late in the night.
- 21st of September: icing on the cake of this grand chelem came on that day, early in the morning, still at Un Brin Folk. Organizers of Levitation have welcomed early birds and fans of the Black Angels for a special moment of conviviality with the band itself, around their preferred records that were religiously and respectfully listened and commented. Followed by a stuning and delicious French brunch, all the luck attendees had many opportunities to speak, share, take pictures with generous and always smiling Alex Maas.
All thumbs up for these meetings around Levitation. We cannot wait to be at the next edition !
