It had been almost six months without any news about our compilations « we are indie ». Don’t be afraid to curse us, but don’t believe that we weren’t thinking about you, not at all.
With our daily publications online, we know that a commitment in a new mixtape requires long weeks of preparation between establishing the contact, track organization, making artworks (we support DIY), putting online, communication and then total excitation : digital release. First of all, we took our time to think this compilation as a summary (not exhaustive obviously) of artists that we support on our site and that we want to highlight.
In two parts, as the previous compilations, “we are indie XVI” is a large and generous mixtape that you can listen first online but also wherever you want, in your bedroom, in the shower, under the stars, in your car or during your trip around the world. “we are indie” remains faithful to its philosophy with free downloads to help these artists reach you.
We hope that this compilation will fulfill your voracious wish to discover musicians of all kinds, who live in different beats per minute this marvelous meeting of French and international artists. With over a third of foreign bands, “we are indie XVI” has its eyes wide open and full of curiosity on the world. We believe more than ever that open-mindedness is the mainstray of musical diversity.
As usual, we offer you a tour of forty-four projects (yes, it’s unbelievable) of our 16th compilation on indiemusic. Have a safe trip all of you. Enjoy!
Part I
In every adventure, there is a beginning. This one, “we are indie XVI” , starts with the folk lover odyssey of Novo Amor and resonant and carnal pop of Belair Polo Club.
Rousing riffs pair of electronic blankets of John and the Volta, the honest and coo indie pop of the sisters of Vic + Gab’, the sweet pop erroneously innocent of The Sun Days and the trip in the tropics of The Georgeous Chans makes us lose our head.
The nostalgia will put in with the warm and feelgood pop of The Yellow Letter, followed by the encounter of pop and disco created by Redlight Dreams.
Kid Parade brings us back to our childhood with his juvenile and friendly pop, just before Joseph Leon’s classy lounge blues and the nocturnal indie-rock ballad of Alaska Square.
No Money Kids’ groovy and rowdy electro-rock is the troublemaker with Old Hours’ gentle folk and Morgan Manifacier’s experimental indie-folk.
Balinger will reveal us how to go from softness to anger in the same track, perfect to move to Von Pariahs’ rebellious rock.
Then comes Franz Is Dead and its French brit-pop, Natureboy and its sweet and casual pop-rock and Coming Soon with a hypnotic and psychedelic pop.
The conclusion of this first step is the graceful and lonely folk of The Last Morning Soundtrack.
Part II
We slide quietly to the second part of “we are indie XVI” with the reserved choral French pop of Petit Duck.
The drastic and tribal pop of Allyson Ezell and folk poetic duo of The Luck take over before Ben Ellis’ gleaming pop-rock and the effective and lively pop of Agua Roja.
In the electro-pop sphere, we’ll follow the smooth and exotic rythms of Dive Inn, the welcoming Noir Coeur, the rousing lounge music of M+A et then the wide-awake dream pop of Dear Eyes.
Then, welcome to today’s psych-rock with the haunted and funereal compositions of Eagles Gift and those deeply hypnotic of The Vickers.
Midway between indie pop and hip-hop, We Are Match meets the path of the agitator Lucio Milkowski, before leading to the best of US hip-hop provided by The Procussions.
The soundscape changes with the shiny and sensual shoegaze of Verena 4, the rebel surf surf punk of New Swears and the experimental free rock of Slow Earth.
We’re getting close to the end when the bell of the implecable indie-rock of The Slow Readers Club tolls, next to the breathtaking and visceral rock of Versari, and possessive and physical rock-pop of Oktobre.
To conclude this adventure, we’ll let Olympia Fields tell us its beautiful ascent, softly post-rock, toward the stars before going to explore the unknown with the synthetic pop of San Carol.
For this sixteenth mix tape, indiemusic would like to thank especially Clarisse, Vivien and Vincent of Yotanka, Marina of BMK and Nathalie of Be Popular. And of course all the artists and musicians present in “we are indie XVI”, which could never have happened without them!
